Volunteer Testimonies

Sue

Lately, Mondays have been the best day of my week.  I volunteer at the Women’s Resource Center on Mondays.  The past several weeks, God has filled me with an abundance of joy.  I can’t explain it; I am just enjoying it and praising Him for it!  This hasn’t always been the case.  Recently, I have been so emotional and depressed.  I became so oppressed by it I prayerfully considered giving up my Monday commitment of almost ten years.  But the Lord used dear people at the Center to listen, comfort, encourage, and pray for me.  The Lord reminded me that apart from Him I can do nothing; that I can do all things through Him who strengthens Me; that I am the conduit and He is the power.  As one pastor used to say, “Any old rusty pipe will do!” I realized to renege on my commitment would be denying His call on me to be here and giving in to the lies of the enemy.  So in faith and obedience, I continue to show up every Monday.  And He has showered me with blessings and abundant joy.  Thank You, Lord Jesus.  You are faithful even when we are faithless.  You promise: “Faithful is He who calls you, who also will do it.”

While attending my church, an announcement was made about the HEART Bible Study (Healing and Education for Abortion Related Trauma) that helps counsel post abortive women. The bible study was sponsored and facilitated by the WRMCSN. I was interested for two reasons. I was a post abortive woman, and I wanted to help others who also had that experience. I then decided to go through the Missionary Volunteer Training Program which provided facts about abortion, a non-judgmental environment to share, guest speakers, and how to share the gospel with others. After I finished the program, I knew that I wanted to minister to vulnerable women. I thank God that I am in such a blessed ministry.

I have been fortunate in many aspects of my life! God brought me into life from an unwed couple and I was adopted before I was 6 months old by a loving married couple. I had a daughter and I cannot imagine what my life would have been like without her! Unfortunately she was taken away from us by a drunk driver at the age of 23, I was fortunate to have been able to experience the gift of being a parent.

As a man I never really thought about abortion, only that it is a waste of God’s gift and because of that it would be hypocritical of me to support abortion. I went through the Missionary Counselor training at the WRMCSN and really had my eyes opened on many levels! I am now a Male Advisor for the WRMCSN and I am given the opportunity to share the Gospel, encourage men who have a wife or girlfriend and find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy. I share with them God’s command to love their woman and treat her with respect and that this gift of a baby can be the best gift in their life and not a crisis. The men I have met with want to do the right thing, they just need the encouragement!

I first heard about WRMCSN through Hope Church several years ago.  Their mission to save the lives of the unborn and to serve and support women just resonated in me and it has been on my heart ever since.  I took the Missionary Counselor Training course last year and it was a great experience.

I have always considered myself pro-life but what I learned was truly eye-opening.  The training taught me so much!.  We learned the details of abortion procedures and the physical and spiritual repercussions they cause, to helping a woman see the positive alternative pregnancy options she has and so much in between.   And above all else, sharing the love and hope of our Savior with each and every woman.  I was also encouraged by hearing the testimonies of fellow classmates and volunteers at the Center.  There were so many amazing testaments as to how God can transform and heal and work everything for the good of those who love him.  During my training, God really grew my heart towards women who are hurting and struggling, especially in crisis pregnancy situations. I am excited for, and pray that God will utilize the knowledge I gained during my training for his glory!

Jesus Met Her Here

She came to the center to get a free pregnancy test and pregnancy verification form. She was 41 years old, married, already had children, and was hoping that the test would show she was positive. At first, I found it a little odd, that at 41 she wanted another child. While talking to her she shared that only a few months before she and  her husband had experienced a great heartache: their toddler daughter had drowned in the family swimming pool. We talked a little more and then I presented her the Gospel of our wonderful Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ . When at the end I asked her if she wanted to open her heart and ask Jesus in she responded affirmatively and as she began to pray and thank Him for His forgiveness she began to sob. I asked her what was wrong. She shook her head, she told me that she had felt so guilty of her baby's drowning because she had not fenced the area properly. Her tears were tears of joy as His forgiveness had unburdened her soul: her conscience wiped clean in front of my eyes. By the way, her test was positive. As I was getting her paperwork ready I could hear her speaking to her husband on the phone: sharing joyfully the Very Good News. By His stripes we are healed.
